QnA in Seoul : Alex Finch

Alex Finch left London 8 years ago and came to Seoul (sometimes amazes me how long some foreigners have been living in Korea) to work. You’ll see him around the streets in Sinsa, mostly Garosu-gil, in some fashion events and at the Seoul Fashion Week (which starts this weekend!).

Models and fashion details are what you can find in his photos. Of course, he was bringing his nikon when we met.

I must say I really liked some of his answers as photographer myself.

What do you do? I’m a part time photographer and brand social media contributor.

What do you aim for? I’m aiming to work completely in photography and media in the future. Something where I can explore.

Disadvantages and difficulties in your profession: The language. I speak it and understand it, but people don’t realise it. It causes issues, but also fun moments.

Who or what inspires you: I’m inspired by people who do what they love. That shows in their face and their attitudes.

The moment you decided to live in Seoul: My job moved me here, but it was always going to happen. This city is diverse and fun.

Favorite book, film and music: I’m reading a lot of science fiction by Peter F. Hamilton right now. The picture he pats of the future appeals to me. Movie. I was and am a fan of the ‘Bourne’ series, but I have no real favorite. Not a fan of horror. Music. I have terrible taste! I listen to what makes me want to dance or what I can imagine myself singin or playing.

Favorite place in Seoul: Design Museum in Hongdae. Was the first and still my favorite cafe/design place.

What do you think you will be doing in one year? Probably still working in an office, but with a great many more brand in contact with me and more lookbook shoots.

A person who deserves recognition for his/her work: Sun Hyunwoo is the founder of TalkToMeInKorean.com – a site that teaches Korean to foreigners. He speaks multiple languages, has a beautiful wife and child, and he is one of the most helpful people I know.
